FAIRPORT LITTLE LEAGUE

FAIRPORT LITTLE LEAGUE

Softball

Our Girls Softball divisions include players ages 5 through 16.

Our spring softball season runs from April to late June for all age groups.  Practices start for all divisions in April, when the weather clears and fields become playable.  Games typically start the last weekend of April, and go through late June.

All ages indicated are based on the player's age as of Jan 1, 2024

Micros (ages 5-7)

League Play with on field instruction. Coaches pitch, and use a hitting tee after 4-5 pitches. We focus on teaching the fundamental skills of throwing, catching, fielding and hitting. We also play a simplified game, allowing us to teach the basics of the game. Offensively, the whole team hits each inning, allowing every player the same number of at-bats. Outs are used, but not counted. Defensively, these young fielders get to rotate positions after each inning, providing more opportunities for players to field and make plays.

- This year, Micros players will get a new glove included in their registration!
- Also for this year, each team will have a one hour clinic with a hitting coach.
- Typically, Micros play 2 to 3 days a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
- Saturday games may be cross town games, against other towns in our Little League District.
- Season runs from April to late June.

Minors (ages 8-10)

League Play, with umpires. The players pitch, and batters can hit or strike out, but can't walk. Upon 4 balls, the coach pitches to the batter to complete the at-bat. The game rules are modified around stealing and overthrows to keep the game flowing. This division continues to focus on developing the players skills and fundamentals. The season culminates with playoffs and a league championship.

- This year, each team will have a one hour clinic with a hitting coach.
- Typically, Minors play 3 days a week, with practices or games on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Rain-make ups can be any day of the week.
- Many games can be cross-town games, against other towns in our Little League District.
- NOTE: 8 year olds may request to play down a level in Micros based on ability and comfort. 10 year olds may request to play up in Majors with either Director approval or a try-out.

- Typically, Majors play 2 to 3 times a week, with practices or games on Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturdays. Rain-make ups can be any day of the week.
- Many games can be cross-town games, against other towns in our Little League District.
- NOTE: Every first year Majors softball player must attend one of the evaluation tryout dates. All players are selected to a team.
